"Most people do not realize how much value the marsh brings to fish and wildlife," said Jim Barkuloo, project coordinator. “Not only does it filter stormwater runoff, but it also removes nutrients and provides valuable habitat for shorebirds, fishes and invertebrates. That is why the Fish and Wildlife Service and other agencies are so interested in restoring these shorelines."

Airport Board OK's Emergency Sod after Drainage Breach
Bay County Airport Authority board members are acknowledging there was a breach in the new airport's stormwater drainage system during last Thursday's heavy rains.

Construction crews at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in West Bay could be having more environmental problems. This time in Burnt Mill Creek. Environmentalists say Thursday's heavy rains caused more dirt and silt from the new airport site to runoff into the creek.
